Hatami will attend the inauguration of President Nicolás Maduro on January 10th in Caracas, Venezuela.

The ceremony was boycotted by the European Union, United States and Venezuela´s South American neighbors. Outside the court's chambers, a noticeable increase in security presence marked the quiet streets of Caracas early on morning of the inauguration.

He said Venezuela is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with China, share experience in the governance of the country and promote pragmatic cooperation in various fields such as agriculture to jointly build a better future of bilateral relationship.

In making the announcement, Johnson Smith stated that the decision to retake the shares was premised on Venezuela not fulfilling its obligation to upgrade and expand Petrojam's plant, which, she said, posed a risk to the economy.

There were few foreign dignitaries present as the Organization of American States voted on Thursday not to recognize the legitimacy of Maduro's second term. "Now is the time to convince the Maduro dictatorship that the moment has arrived for democracy to return to Venezuela".

Paraguay went a step further, cutting diplomatic ties. Canada has provided $2.2-million in humanitarian assistance to Venezuela and is a member of the Lima Group of countries that is trying to bring worldwide pressure to bear on the South American country.

Five Latin American countries and Canada have asked the International Criminal Court to investigate Venezuela for crimes against humanities, including torture and the arbitrary detention of anti-government protesters.

"It is time for Venezuela to begin a transitional process that can restore the constitutional, democratic order by holding free and fair elections that respect the will of the Venezuelan people", U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wrote in statement.

The ceremony contrasted with the harsh realities that face the former bus driver turned socialist leader, including hyperinflation, severe food and medicine shortages and an exodus of millions of citizens. Maduro's government has jailed or driven into exile its most popular leaders.
