SpaceX To Lay Off 10 Percent Of Its Workforce

Elon Musk Debuts Completed 'Hopper' Rocket to Social Media Derision

SpaceX will lay off approximately 10 percent of its workforce at the start of 2019 during a critical time for the California-based commercial space company as it helps NASA return to launching astronauts from the Space Coast again for the first time since 2011.

Citing an email sent to employees, the Los Angeles Times reported that the company was offering those affected a minimum of eight weeks' pay and other benefits, including career coaching and resume assistance.

The vehicle is slated to launch to suborbital heights in March or April, and the concept is a sign that SpaceX's plans are solidifying, according to Engadget.

According to Musk, the company is aiming for the vehicle to carry its first crew to Mars as early as the 2020s.

The company earns tens of millions of dollars per launch.

Watch Dave Grohl Fall Off Stage (Again) After Chugging A Beer
Dave Grohl has fallen off a stage again, but luckily for the Foo Fighters leader, this time he didn't suffer any lasting damage. Grohl then placed it on top of a speaker where he tried to drink from the can hands-free while he continued his guitar solo.

As Business Insider's Dave Mosher noted earlier this month, the rocket carries the test-hopper moniker because it is not created to orbit the Earth.

SpaceX, which has developed reusable rockets and is working on Starship for a future anticipated Mars mission, gets most of its income from launching payloads for both private companies and the USA government.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk offered the glimpse of the company's Starship test flight rocket on January 11. Even so, those first movements won't likely be more than several meters, just like the first flight of Grasshopper.

The orbital Starship will be similar to the Falcon rockets in that there will be two stages: the Super Heavy booster that will land back on Earth after getting the Starship away from Earth's gravitational pull, and then the Starship that will take people to Mars.

Another $10 billion project called Starlink would create a constellation of satellites to provide affordable broadband internet service. Later tests, expected to take place in 2020, will be performed at higher altitudes and at higher velocities. Today, this fervor has accelerated toward orbit and shows no signs of slowing down.
