Saudi Crown Prince Ordered Journalist Critic's Detention — WashPost

Khashoggi case should not be politicized, says UN expert

'We have to find out who did it, ' Trump said.

Jamal Khashoggi has been missing since visiting the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul Oct. 2. Khashoggi supported efforts to nudge the entrenched ultraconservative clerics to accept reforms in the kingdom. The kingdom dismisses the allegation as "baseless". But Riyadh has not offered any evidence to prove its claim that Khashoggi left the consulate alive, even though his fiancee was waiting outside for him.

Embassies and consulates under the Vienna Convention are technically foreign soil and must be protected by host nations.

Khashoggi was a US resident.

Ankara wants to cooperate with Riyadh but Saudis must reciprocate, he said at a press briefing in Baghdad.

A source told the Washington Post that USA intelligence "intercepted communications of Saudi officials discussing a plan to capture him".

USA officials have not confirmed Turkish claims that Khashoggi, a United States resident and one of the more outspoken critics of the regime of King Salman and his son Prince Mohammed, had been lured to the consulate and murdered by a team of 15 government operatives sent by Riyadh to Istanbul.

Asked about a Washington Post report that USA intelligence intercepts outlined a Saudi plan to detain Khashoggi, Trump said, "It would be a very sad thing and we will probably know in the very short future". Bob Corker and ranking member Sen.

The country has indicated it would allow Turkish authorities to carry out a search of the consulate.

The Saudi government asserted that Khashoggi left the premises shortly after his visit.

Erdogan said on Thursday, "If a bird flew, if a mosquito appeared, these systems would catch them, and [I believe] they [the Saudis] would have the most advanced of systems". Media also reported the possibility Mr Khashoggi was taken aboard one of the private planes.

Sanders said the administration is pushing for more information on the case, which has sparked outrage from human rights and journalist groups and which threatens to harm Saudi relations with Western allies.

At this time, I implore President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump to help shed light on Jamal's disappearance.

IMF chief defends rate hikes after Trump slams 'crazy' Fed
The IMF expects the USA economy to grow 2.9 per cent this year, the fastest pace since 2005 and unchanged from the July forecast. Trade tensions are expected to continue although Fund officials view US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement as a positive sign.

Mr Trump said he had spoken with the Saudis about what he called a "bad situation", but he did not disclose details of his conversations.

The video then cuts away to traffic outside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul's upscale 4th Levent neighborhood, showing vehicles with green diplomatic license plates.

The Sabah newspaper, which is close to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, published images of what it referred to as the "assassination squad" apparently taken at passport control.

Broadcast by Turkey's TRT World channel and apparently obtained from security cameras, the footage shows vehicles driving up to the consulate, including black vans thought to be central to inquiries.

RSF is calling for an independent global investigation to determine his fate.

Turkish prosecutors are already looking into the case.

The situation puts WWE in a tricky position.

The Times adds that "media reports have cited Turkish investigators as saying they believe he was killed soon after entering the building and his corpse cut to pieces and disposed of by an elite Saudi security team".

WWE's continued business in Saudi Arabia remains a hot-button topic in professional wrestling, particularly with Crown Jewel (2 November) right around the corner, and PWTorch.com's Wade Keller has this week highlighted a damning new Washington Post article on current USA/Saudi relations. I texted a few friends to inform them, and I asked about Jamal at the consular building.

There are plenty of gruesome rumours flying around over what happened to Jamal Khashoggi. "We are extremely anxious", he said. However, they have provided no evidence for him leaving the premises.

Spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the U.S.is continuing to monitor the unfolding investigation in Istanbul, but offered no information about what the crown prince told the USA officials about Khashoggi's disappearance.

Supporters held rallies outside the consulate during the week.

It's thought Khashoggi had made a decision to use his influence to head a group called Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN).
