Humans could face severe climate change consequences by 2040, warns UN report

Burn baby burn

The report offers a more critical look at the consequences of climate change and how quickly it will affect the daily lives of the world's citizens through food shortages, increased number of wildfires and rising sea levels.

President Donald Trump cast doubt on a United Nations report that warned that we have just 12 years to curb climate change by suggesting the reports' authors weren't more credible than reports that say the environment is "fabulous".

THE approval of the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) last Saturday, is deemed a victory for small-island developing states. Florida is a state that is expected to be heavily affected by rising sea levels expected with global warming.

Trump said he wanted to know more about who wrote the report.

"It feels good. We think we can work with what is contained in the report", she said.

"According to numerous studies, climate change is making some events, like heat waves and heavy downpours, more intense and more likely to occur".

The IPCC report reveals the widespread effects of global warming of 1.5°C and above, which includes increased coastal flooding and the salinization of river beds, besides increased heatwaves.

Chinese stocks tumble as trading resumes under a cloud
It is likely that further RRR cuts in addition to fiscal stimulus are in the pipeline to cushion the slowdown in the economy.

To limit warming to the lower temperature goal, the world needs "rapid and far-reaching" changes in energy systems, land use, city and industrial design, transportation and building use, the report said.

Adam Bandt, the Greens climate spokesman, said the IPCC report showed it was "time to hit the climate emergency button", and that neither major party was prepared to take the necessary steps.

"I thought we were trying to solve the problem, but at the same time, I don't see much of a change trying to fix that", Chandler said. The Institute for Energy Research found that China produced nearly one-third of the world's total carbon emissions previous year.

Following a United Nations report on Monday that concluded world leaders have only two decades to end emissions of greenhouse gases or suffer catastrophic climate change, the European Union took just 13 hours to announce plans to cut emissions from cars and trucks a further 35 percent by 2030. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said, adding that his responsibility was to "balance those interests raised in that report with (his state's) broader economic and security interests". "If the president wants to learn more about why he should take the report's findings seriously and set policies to slow climate change, he should check with his military advisors and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences".

The report is part of the Paris climate accord process.

China is the world's largest producer, consumer and importer of coal and any genuine attempt to remove coal from the world's energy mix by 2050 will require massive commitment from Beijing. Politicians are fond of talking about what kind of future we will leave our grandchildren, but I can now say that having a grandchild sharpens that perspective dramatically. Australia's pledge is to cut 2005-level emissions 26-28 per cent by 2030, a target environmental groups such as the Climate Action Tracker describe as "insufficient". He founded New America, a public policy think-tank. Lomborg notes that, with a well designed and coordinated climate policy (i.e. the opposite of what European and North American governments have now), the annual costs will reach USA $3.3 trillion, "more than twice what EU governments spend today on health, education, recreation, housing, environment, police and defense combined".
