U.S. businesses to lobby against Trump's tariffs

USA companies in China say they are already feeling the pain from the trade war.

Against this concern, CNBC's Jim Cramer noted that stocks with heavy exposure to China have been on a recent rise, which he thinks suggests a real trade war might become a lower risk.

The White House believes China will wave the white flag after the next round of tariffs on $200 billion in goods, said William Zarit, the chamber's chairman.

While certain doubts have been raised about the current global trading system, China has always supported the protection of free trade and believes that multilateralism with the WTO at its core should be strengthened, Wang added.

"There's some discussions and information that we received that the Chinese government - the top of the Chinese government - wished to pursue talks", Kudlow said.

The basic tenets of the WTO, in opposing protectionism and supporting free trade should not change, but the rights of developing nations should also not be overlooked, he said. He responded that he wasn't, two of the people said.

"The issue of WTO reform is extremely complex, and involves many areas".

Chinese tech stocks slid after President Donald Trump reportedly OK'd hitting China with the next round of tariffs.

In short, costs are up and profits are down, and the situation would only get worse if President Trump follows through with his threat to levy tariffs on a further $200 billion worth of imports from China, respondents said-74.3% said they expected to be negatively affected by that broadside, and 67.6% said they expected to take damage from the Chinese response.

One researcher at Taiwan's Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research, Roy Chun Lee says that "the historical example of the U.S. -Japan economic conflict suggests that the U.S. It has enough fuel to drive its economy even if a trade war is prolonged", the newspaper said in an editorial.

In response, China has vowed to retaliate with tariffs on another $60 billion of USA exports, including meat, coffee, furniture and auto parts.

"We are under no pressure to make a deal with China, they are under pressure to make a deal with us", Trump tweeted.

"Our markets are surging, theirs are collapsing", he wrote.

The United States bought $505 billion in goods from China previous year, and Trump has already moved to impose tariffs on $50 billion of those goods as a way to try to force concessions from the Chinese government.

Trump threatened a third tranche of tariffs on another $267 billion of Chinese imports last week, which would mean levying duties on almost everything China exports to the U.S. Trump said at the time those tariffs were "ready to go on short notice", but the administration hasn't yet published a list for public comment.

But US firms are feeling whiplash from both sides as they sell and make goods in China, with Washington's border tax increase and Beijing's counter-punch hurting more than 60% of businesses, according to the poll.

Mid-level US and Chinese officials met on August 22 and 23 with no agreements.
