Low-carb diets linked to shorter life span

Study Low-carb diets linked to shorter life span

A new study says that taking in too many or too few carbs can be bad for your health.

The second part of the study reinforced these findings and found that replacing carbs with animal proteins in a low-carb diet correlated with a higher risk of mortality than consuming carbs in moderation. But replacing carbohydrates with vegetable proteins and fats for example, vegetables and nuts, showed a reduced risk of mortality. Low carb diets were defined as carbs contributing less than 40% of the individual's energy intake, while high carb diets were those where carbohydrates accounted for more than 70% of energy consumption.

The results of the study are from data that involved 15,0000 people who were between the ages of 45 and 64.

Low carb diets have gained popularity in the U.S. and Europe thanks to their association with short-term weight loss benefits. Seidelmann, who also led the research, added. The Keto diet and the Paleo diet are popular renditions that typically hold a large focus on animal-based foods. They then calculated average caloric intake and the proportion of calories coming from different food groups based on questionnaires the participants completed outlining the types of food and drink they consumed, portion sizes and how often they ate.

Subjects were followed for a median of 25 years.

Asefny, for example, is an app launched by Saudi Arabia's Red Crescent to help pilgrims request emergency medical attention. After sunset, pilgrims head to Muzdalifah, halfway between Arafat and Mina, where they stay at least until midnight.

The participants answered questions about their dietary habits both at the beginning of the study and 6 years later, at follow-up. It found that people who get about half of their total calories from carbohydrates may be at a lower risk of early death.

Researchers concluded that people who ate a moderate amount of carbohydrates lived four years longer than those with low-carbohydrate consumption and one year longer than those who ate a lot of carbohydrates. "With a mere 100g of complex carb a day to play with, a lower intake of cereals, grains, and starchy vegetables is inevitable", said Catherine Collins, a dietitian with the UK's National Health Service, who was not involved in the study.

Carbohydrates should be consumed in moderation.

"Low-carb diets that replace carbohydrates with protein or fat are gaining widespread popularity as a health and weight-loss strategy", Seidelmann said.

The conclusions of such previous studies with which the authors have compared their work. Because of this growing consumption of animal proteins and fats, which are associated with aging in the body.
