England's James Anderson becomes first to claim 100 Test wickets at Lord's

Not even rain that washed out the whole of the first day and reduced the second to just 35 overs could stop England winning on the fourth on Sunday as India were again completely out-classed in English conditions.

LONDON: Jonny Bairstow and Chris Woakes scored the first fifties of the match as England recovered to build a significant first-innings lead in the second Test against India at Lord's on Saturday after yet another top-order collapse.

Bairstow received sound support from the correct Woakes, selected after fellow all-rounder Ben Stokes was omitted because of clash with his ongoing trial for affray. We still haven't played our best game.

England, nonetheless, declared their innings on 396 for 7 after Hardik Pandya dismissed Curran.

Man of the Match, Chris Woakes: "I am delighted. And we deserved to lose", he said.

Cheteshwar Pujara was five not out and Ajinkya Rahane one not out, with India captain Virat Kohli unable to bat in his regular number four position because of back stiffness.

By then Woakes, a good enough batsman to make his Test debut at six five years ago, had reached an unbeaten 137 while Curran had again shown his batting promise by adding 40 that featured an extraordinary six hit in tennis-style off the unfortunate Mohammed Shami.

Nadal pips Wawrinka thriller, Djokovic stunned by Greek teen
Back then, in his debut at the Rogers Cup, the now No26 in the world beat the No19 seed Kyrgios. It was a routine outing for ninth seed Djokovic as the Serbian star defeated Polansky 6-3 6-4.

In fact, with India being bowled out twice in just 82.2 overs and England batting for 88 this was a Lord's Test that in effect lasted for less than two day's play.

Their unbroken sixth-wicket stand was so far worth 99 runs and all the more valuable for the fact that England had slumped to 89 for four on the stroke of lunch.

With the tea interval looming, Broad got the key wicket of India captain Virat Kohli, who dropped down a place to No. 5 after not taking to the field due to a back strain as England batted in the first session.

The very next ball Broad trapped Dinesh Karthik LBW to reduce India to 61-6 as England closed in on a devastating victory.

As was the case on day two - when India were bowled out for just 107 - conditions once again favoured England's bowlers and Anderson made the breakthrough with just his eighth delivery.

Earlier, India chose to play with two spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav, whereas Cheteshwar Pujara had a horrific return to Test cricket. "I should be okay", he said. The thinest of edges off his glove was well caught by debutant Ollie Pope at short-leg, and his review seemed more in hope than anything else, as Broad picked up his third wicket of the day.
