Wimbledon final vs World Cup final, how situation will be handled

Spectators watch the TV screen on Henman Hill at Wimbledon

LONDON-Nothing says English sport like the ripple of polite applause at Wimbledon.

The clash of timings has been felt nowhere more so than in England, with Gareth Southgate's men now so close to reaching their first final since 1966.

"For many years now we've had people using iPhones, or phones, mobile phones, tablets".

Wimbledon chiefs insisted again Monday that the men´s final will start at its traditional time despite clashing with a potential England World Cup triumph but will have no objection if the Centre Court crowd want to take sneak peeks of the action from Moscow on their phones.

That game was broadcast on the big screen at the Wimbledon grounds.

However, chief executive Richard Lewis confirmed earlier Monday there were no plans to move the men's final and that both the World Cup semifinals and final would not be shown on any big screen, as has been the club's policy since the beginning of the tournament.

Finally, England and Croatia have chance to banish semi blues
England had got off to a flying start when Trippier curled a superb free kick into the top corner in the opening minutes. They have since defeated Denmark and hosts Russian Federation on penalties to make it to the last four.

Former Illini star Kevin Anderson ousts Roger Federer at Wimbledon
Opening in typically dominant style, the 36-year-old Federer won the opening two sets; relinquishing a match-point in the third. Now the 32-year-old South African moves on to a semifinal against No. 9 John Isner of the USA or No. 13 Milos Raonic of Canada.

Bank of Canada delivers another hike, key interest rate rises to 1.5%

We had superb tennis going on and we were benefiting from modern technology where people were able to follow the football, enjoy it, without disturbing other people.

"I was out and about around the grounds and you could tell when England had scored.it was wonderful".

Last Saturday, fans deserted Centre Court immediately after Rafael Nadal booked his place in the second week of the championships as England were playing Sweden in the World Cup quarter-finals.

The World Cup final in Russian Federation is due to kick off on July 15 two hours after the traditional 2 p.m. start of the men's Wimbledon final-meaning a very likely overlap. I'm sure it'll be the same on Wednesday, a huge amount of interest in the tennis of course because it's a tennis event but great interest in the football.

Tennis superstar Roger Federer countered the football fever with a little irony.

It's not all doom and gloom for the wider Wimbledon tournament though; 17 per cent of internet users state they are actually more engaged in the tennis this year as a direct result of the World Cup also taking place. "They'll hear every point, Wow, Love-15, 15-30", the Swiss said with a smile.
