Trump arrives in Brussels ahead of potentially contentious North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit

"This is unfair, nor is is acceptable".

"Dear America, appreciate your allies, after all you don't have that many".

Here are some of the key talking points around this year's summit.

Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, is due in court on Tuesday as part of his plea deal with Mueller.

Jans said it is vital to discuss not just how much countries are spending but if they are doing so in a way that makes them able to work together. "Not fair to the US taxpayer".

"European troops have been fighting shoulder-to-shoulder with American soldiers in Afghanistan; 870 fearless men and women sacrificed their lives, including 40 soldiers from my homeland, Poland", said Mr. Tusk.

Mr Tusk also said that the U.S. did not and would not have a better ally than the EU, reminding the president that it was European troops who had fought and died in Afghanistan after the 11 September 2001 attacks on the US. Trump has requested closed-door meetings to take place without aides or the media involved.

Responding to criticism from Donald Tusk, the President of the European Council, who complained that Trump is "criticizing Europe nearly daily", Trump says the United States is "being taken advantage of" by the European Union. "Today Europeans spend on defense many times more than Russian Federation and as much as China", Tusk said Tuesday.

Underpayments by European nations have been contentious since long before Trump started complaining about the problem-especially following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, when many nations began to slash defense spending. That has been most plain in his antagonistic approach to Germany, the main host of US forces in Europe.

And, you know, the concern would be that something could pop up going through all those papers that could make him a tougher pick. Outside Trump Tower in Midtown, demonstrators gathered to protest the potential shift of the Supreme Court to the right.

The Polish defence ministry has proposed setting up a joint armoured division that would have 15,000 United States troops and a total of 250 tanks and armoured vehicles.

While Putin has offered no criticism ahead of his meeting with Trump, the US President's arrival in Europe has already been met with warnings from top European leaders.

Trump, however, has taken this a step further by asserting that the Europeans are freeloaders taking advantage of American generosity.

European Council President Donald Tusk is suggesting US President Donald Trump remember who his allies are as Trump prepares to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin.

THIS SHOULD BE EASY: President Donald Trump and Russia's President Vladimir Putin talk during the family photo session at the APEC Summit in Danang, Vietnam November 11, 2017.

"Well, we do have a lot of allies".

Italy's new populist government lines up squarely with Mr. Trump on a range of issues, including a firm stance to stop the mass immigration that is vexing Europe. But Trump has intensified the demands to such an extent that allies worry it could damage North Atlantic Treaty Organisation morale and play into the hands of Putin, whom they accuse of trying to divide and destabilise the West.

"Dear President Trump: America does not have and will not have a better ally than Europe". And I have Putin. "Dialogue is a sign of strength". Cold War-era contingency plans for Western troops and military hardware to move swiftly across Europe have lapsed. They are also likely discuss two arms control pacts - the INF Treaty and the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START), told Jon Huntsman, US ambassador to Russian Federation, to reporters on a conference call.
