Rudy Giuliani touts Russian hacking indictments as 'good news for all Americans'

Trump speaks during a press conference on the second day of the NATO Summit in Brussels

The Kremlin has denied that the Russian government interfered in the US election.

Most cable news networks broke away from coverage of the royal pageantry to carry Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's announcement of indictments against 12 Russian intelligence officers for interfering in the USA election.

Speaking at Chequers Friday at the official country residence of the prime minister, Trump said he also would bring up Ukraine, Syria, the Middle East, and nuclear proliferation when he meets with Putin.

"Today's charges include no allegations of knowing involvement by anyone on the [Trump] campaign and no allegations that the alleged hacking affected the election result", White House deputy press secretary Lindsay Walters said.

Schumer says Trump should cancel his meeting with Putin until Russian Federation takes steps to prove it won't interfere in future elections.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle Friday called on President Donald Trump to consider canceling his upcoming summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Finland after new indictments in the special counsel probe headed by Robert Mueller. "He needs to understand what evidence we have of foreign election interference". If President Trump is not prepared to hold Putin accountable, the #HelsinkiSummit should not move forward.

Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., has been a harsh critic of Trump, recently calling his visit at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels "disappointing".

Trump said he will bring up the topic at a meeting between the two leaders next week in Helsinki.

The fresh indictments related to special counsel Robert Mueller's probe come amid Trump's United Kingdom visit, and just hours after he once again called the investigation a "witch hunt".

Still, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said the internet "allows foreign adversaries to attack Americans in new and unexpected ways. We should stand united against Putin's past and planned future attacks against us".

Trump himself said he would "firmly ask the question" today but added he doubts Putin would just cop to it in front of him. I don't think. But you never know what happens. After meeting with the Russian leader in November 2017, Trump said of Russia's meddling, "Every time he sees me he says, 'I didn't do that, ' and I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it".

Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, told reporters Friday that Trump shouldn't meet alone with Putin, adding that he's "afraid the president could be take advantage of" due to his lack of preparation. "And he replied 'Because of the Mueller investigation.' No Mr. President, the reason why relations with Russian Federation are hard is because Russian Federation and its agents interfered dramatically in the 2016 elections".
