Man who challenged black family's use of pool loses job

Adam Bloom

The man, who is identified only as "Adam" in the video, called the police on a black woman who gave him her address.

In the video, Edwards says that the man called police because she refused to show an ID to get into the pool.

An officer asks what people typically need to get into the pool and is told there is a keycard.

A video recorded by Edwards on July 4 and seen more than 4 million times on Facebook shows what happened after Bloom questioned whether she was allowed to be there.

He was filmed interrogating Edwards and her young son on whether they had permission to use the pool at the residential complex in Winston-Salem, NC.

The incident occurred July 4 at a private community pool in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Bloom's employer, Sonoco, saw the video and posted a statement on Facebook that said he's "no longer employed by the company in any respect".

Racial profiling at its worst! After Edwards hands over the card and the officer verifies that it works correctly, he apologizes for the situation.

In a statement, the Glenridge Homeowners Association apologised and said Mr Bloom had resigned from his position as the pool chairman and a member of the board. She confirmed her address, and the police even confirmed that her key card to the pool granted her access - which prompted Bloom to suggest that cards had been stolen.

Calls for calm after French police killing sparks riots
Aboubakar F. was under surveillance as part of a drug-trafficking investigation when he was stopped by police on Tuesday. The French government promised police reinforcements, and said the violence and vandalism would not be tolerated.

Edwards, who claimed Bloom asked her for her ID because she is black, shot video after police arrived to help diffuse the situation.

Edwards tells the officers in no uncertain terms that she feels Bloom targeted her because of her race.

Edwards repeatedly asks the man, Adam, to apologize and he refuses and then walks away. Bloom has not commented.

In a Twitter post, the company said that the situation, though outside the workplace, doesn't reflect its company values.

"He had a pool member come to him and say "this person doesn't appear to be a pool member" and asked to check their credentials, as he's required to do so", Vermitsky said.

The Glenridge Homeowners' Association also put out a statement Thursday afternoon confirming that it had accepted Bloom's resignation as pool chair and as a board member, effective immediately.

"On behalf of our more than 20,000 teammates around the world, we extend our sincerest apologies to all who have been hurt by this incident, especially Ms. Edwards and her family". We are aware of a bad incident involving the actions of one our employees outside of the workplace, and we have released this statement.

This is a classic case of racial profiling in my half a million $$ neighborhood pool.

"In confronting and calling the police on one of our neighbours, the pool chair escalated a situation in a way that does not reflect the inclusive values Glenridge seeks to uphold as a community", the statement says. 'Would you mind if I see your keycard?'
