Justin Trudeau Addresses Groping Accusation, Denies He Acted Inappropriately

As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continued to face questions Friday over an alleged groping incident from 18 years ago, the woman who initially made the allegation broke her recent silence, saying the incident "did occur as reported".

In the statement, the writer also confirmed she was the reporter that was referred to in an editorial written in the local Creston Valley Advance 18 years ago. I did not pursue the incident at the time and will not be pursuing the incident further. "I don't remember any negative interactions that day at all".

CBC approached Knight about what happened, but at first she did not want to reveal her identity or be associated with the story.

Trudeau was in town to support an avalanche safety fundraiser, having lost his brother Michel in a 1998 avalanche on Kokanee Glacier.

Allegations against the prime minister re-surfaced last week when a Calgary law professor posted a picture of an old Creston Daily Advance newspaper editorial page that featured claims the then-teacher engaged in inappropriately "handling" a reporter. It suggests the woman felt "blatantly disrespected" but provides no other details about what occurred.

On Thursday, Trudeau changed his approach and responded to the allegations.

"I've been reflecting very carefully on what I remember from that incident nearly 20 years ago and again I feel - I am confident - that I did not act inappropriately, " he told a news conference in Toronto on Thursday.

Trump pressed aides on Venezuela invasion, US official says
McMaster - told Trump that an invasion could backfire and would likely anger Latin American leaders, the official said. Venezuelans have also been fleeing to countries including Brazil, Colombia, Chile, the United States , and Spain.

"I respect the fact that someone else might have experienced this differently", he said. "I had a good day that day", Trudeau told reporters in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Trudeau has said he didn't know at the time that the woman, whose identity is not known, was a journalist.

The unsigned editorial resurfaced recently and has led to calls for the prime minister to address the allegations.

"Again, I've been reflecting on the actual interaction and if I apologized later, then it would be because I sensed that she was not entirely comfortable with the interaction that we had", Trudeau said. "I feel I am confident that I did not act inappropriately", he told reporters in Toronto on Thursday.

Earlier this year, CBC News communicated by phone and email with the woman in question.

CP24 has chosen not to name the woman in an effort to protect her privacy. I haven't reached out to her, no one on my team has reached out to her. "I respect very much her right and her ability to make choices about what is best for her and her family and I obviously will continue to stand as a defender of understanding and respect for individuals and the experiences they go through".
