DOJ Announces Indictment of 12 Russians For Hacking Democrats in 2016 Election

Trump has previously shown little appetite for pressing the issue, telling reporters after meeting Putin in Vietnam last November that he had finished discussing it and believed the Russian leader's denials were honest. If that link is established, it would shatter the Kremlin denials of the Russian state's involvement in the US elections, given that the GRU is part of the state machine.
Rosenstein said the investigation is continuing. The Kremlin denies it interfered. Mr. Obama didn't take action against the Russian government until after the election, in December, when he expelled dozens of Russian operatives from the U.S.
After a contentious week overseas for President Donald Trump and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies, the world's attention now shifts to Monday's scheduled summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, mere days after twelve Russian intelligence operatives were indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller for meddling in the 2016 election.
He said the Kremlin believes there are "no objective reasons" for the current tensions, and that Moscow and Washington must join efforts to tackle global challenges such as worldwide terrorism. President Donald Trump and his supporters have repeatedly called Mueller's investigation a "Witch Hunt".
US intelligence agencies have unanimously concluded that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 campaign, most likely to help Trump's campaign.
Social networking site Twitter Inc TWTR.N on Saturday suspended two accounts linked to 12 Russian spies indicted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller for interfering in the 2016 US presidential election.
Coats said US officials are detecting cyber threats targeting energy, water and other infrastructure, aviation networks and manufacturing facilities.
He cited his historic meeting last month with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as well as meetings he has had with China's Xi Jinping.
He was speaking at the Hudson Institute think tank.
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein made comments to the press regarding these new indictments and talking about the seriousness of confronting foreign interference in American elections.
The DOJ indictment comes just before President Donald Trump is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin for a summit in Helsinki, Finland. President Trump has publicly said he does not see a reason why Russian Federation would be involved in the hacking.

Trump says new Air Force One will be 'top of the line'
Trump said the current Air Force One is 30 years old - but that it could take years before the new ones are completed. The current Air Force One planes are almost 30 years old, and first carried President George H W Bush.
Officer fires through own windshield during high speed shootout

Rosenstein said these new indictments contain no allegation that any U.S. citizen committed a crime or that it changed the final vote count or election result.
Twitter has suspended two accounts allegedly used by Russian intelligence officers to spread information hacked from Democrats computers and email accounts during the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
The charges come as Mueller continues to investigate potential coordination between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign to influence the presidential election.
Two years ago this month, Donald Trump--who has constantly attacked the Mueller probe as a "witch hunt"--tweeted "the new joke in town is that Russian Federation leaked the disastrous DNC e-mails... because Putin likes me".
Trump told CBS News that he is going into the meeting with Putin with "low expectations", but repeated that he thinks it's "a good thing to meet".
Stone has testified he never exchanged information or received stolen documents from Guccifer 2.0, but the indictment says a candidate for U.S. Congress did in August 2016 and received stolen information about their opponent.
And there's no sign that Trump will demand that Putin turn over the 12 Russian intelligence officials that Mueller, the special counsel indicted this week. It had been sought by special counsel Robert Mueller.
The indictments were announced Friday by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein as part of the ongoing special counsel probe into potential coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.
In addition to the DNC hack, the defendants are charged with a separate conspiracy to "to infiltrate computers of organizations responsible for administering elections, including state boards of election, secretaries of state, and companies that supply software and other technology used to administer elections". On Feb. 16, his prosecutors charged 13 Russians and three Russian entities they said were part of a broader effort to sow discord among USA voters through social media - which they used to impersonate Americans, coordinate with unwitting US activists and even plan rallies.
President Donald Trump is dismissing suggestions that Russia has compromising intelligence about him after a news conference in which Trump declined to criticize President Vladimir Putin for Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.
