Ivanka Trump tweets Chinese proverb believed to be American

Ivanka's tweet using Chinese proverb to hail Trump Kim meet stumps Chinese

The president's elder daughter fired off a celebratory message hours ahead of his historic summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un. -Chinese Proverb " Ivanka wrote in a tweet on Monday.

Some guessed that Trump referenced the quote "A true gentleman should keep silent while watching a chess game". "Please help!" the news channel for Sina - the company behind Weibo - wrote on its official social media account.

Others took the opportunity to create their own "Chinese proverb", while some accused her of spreading "fake news". It was molded over the years to its current form, the quote-focused website found, at one point being attributed to Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw.

"[My editor] really can't think of what exactly this proverb is".

Upon further investigation, however, this quote doesn't actually appear to be a Chinese proverb at all.

Meanwhile, US journalist Bill Kristol pointed out that the proverb could actually have originated in America.

Ivanka Trump has been mocked by social media users in China after she shared a Chinese proverb that didn't turn out to be Chinese.

Bill Kristol, editor of the U.S. political magazine the Weekly Standard, tweeted a guess that the phrase "seems in fact to be American from the turn of the 20th c. - which makes sense, since its spirit is can-do Americanism". "But why are Trump WH aides giving our proverbs to China, increasing our proverb deficit?"

They will play promoted Fulham at Wembley in their first home game of the season on the weekend of 18-19 August. It is a similar story for neighbours United, who begin at home to Leicester.

It's not the first time Ivanka has mistakenly attributed a saying to Chinese lore.

She also wrongly attributed a quote to Albert Einstein in July a year ago, writing: "If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts".

Ivanka and her family enjoy a huge fan following in China.

In 2013 she posted on Twitter: "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life".

Twitter users were also quick to criticise the president's daughter.

Ivanka is a popular figure in China, with many young women there seeing her as a symbol of elegance following the success of her clothing label.

But, Ivanka's quote quickly became an object of ridicule by critics in the United States for Mr. Trump and his presidency.
