How the Hill Reacted to the Trump-Kim Summit

-South Korea joint military exercises, which Trump unilaterally declared in his post-summit press conference. Then the film progressed from grim black-and-white shots of the United States' 1950s-era war with North Korea into a colourful montage of parades and a golden sunrise.

"Kim Ju-song interpreted for Kim Yong-chol when he met with Central Intelligence Agency officials", a source said.

Several reporters asked whether Mr Trump had raised the issue of human rights with Mr Kim, who runs a totalitarian regime with extreme censorship and forced-labour camps. Answering a series of questions from the floor, Trump said that the USA will stop "war games" in South Korea, and later elaborated that he was speaking of their joint military exercises, held annually since the 1970s. Department of Defense spokesperson told CBS News in a statement on Tuesday, "The Department of Defense continues to work with the White House, the interagency, and our allies and partners on the way forward following the U.S./DPRK summit".

"No, I think I've helped them, because I think things will change".

However, the Pentagon has since denied that Mr Mattis was caught off guard.

Indeed, mere hours after the summit concluded, China began to advocate for easing those sanctions.

It was unclear whether South Korea was aware of Trump's decision before he announced it publicly.

Trump says that his one-on-one meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was "very, very good" and that the two have an "excellent relationship".

"I showed it because I really want him to do something", Trump said.

What are the war games?

. Beyond the impact on both leaders' political fortunes, the summit could shape the fate of countless people - the citizens of impoverished North Korea, the tens of millions living in the shadow of the North's nuclear threat, and millions more worldwide.

Prince George has previously been spotted wearing another style from the Hampton Canvas range at Trotters called the Nantucket. The "Kate effect", as it has been called, is not uncommon to the Duchess of Cambridge - for whom the phenomenon is named.

As written, the Agreed Framework, a more-than-950-word document, required far more North Korean concessions than Trump's 350-word document, including the admission of worldwide inspectors and the freezing of reactors, experts said.

What else did they agree at the summit?

"Is this forever, or while the talks or going on, just for next month?"

After greeting each other, the two leaders planned to sit for a one-on-one meeting that a USA official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said could last up to two hours, with only translators joining them.

Washington is eager to see if the North's pledges were "sincere", Pompeo said, adding: "The US has been fooled before".

Hours earlier as he sat alongside Kim at the signing ceremony, Trump said the two leaders "have developed a special bond" and that after their several hours of talks Tuesday and the signing of the agreement he thinks the USA relationship with North Korea "will be very different than in the past".

Observers say the document lacks substance, in particular on how denuclearisation would be achieved. Hannity talks to the President off-camera regularly and Trump makes regular appearances on Fox News programs like "Fox & Friends" and "Justice with Judge Jeanine". She had to mediate between two leaders known for trading stinging insults, and to interpret Trump's impulsive manner of speaking.

Trump said he would "absolutely" invite Kim to visit the White House and is open to visiting Pyongyang as well.

On conservative Fox News and among Mr Trump's core supporters, the president was lauded for a historic diplomatic breakthrough. "But there's many times where little jokes or phrases don't get picked up". Republicans emerged from a meeting with Vice President Mike Pence wanting more information on which exercises were on hold. There was plenty of talk of "historic first steps", in Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's words, but concern over how the yet-to-be negotiated verification details will turn out.

Trump has credited his "maximum pressure" campaign of crippling trade and economic sanctions for bringing Kim to the negotiating table and vowed to keep them in place until North Korea complies with its promises.

Tuesday was the latest reminder that in just 16 months, USA - and worldwide - politics have been turned upside down.
