Confusion swirls on border after President Trump’s reversal on families

"It feels like the information on these children is inadequate and siloed in different agencies".

Images of children in metal cages, and audio of young migrants crying out for their parents, sparked protests and drew worldwide condemnation from world leaders and organisations.

Laura Ingraham said the media keeps trying to blame President Trump for creating a crisis at the U.S. -Mexico border, but "inconvenient truths" are emerging to undermine that narrative.

"The director said that she knows that the news is saying lots of things but the children are fine there and that they are good kids".

Lemire reported from NY.

"Our hope and expectation is that these children are returned to their families as soon as possible", Marr said. They suggested that he's been too passive about seeking answers because he's in a tough Republican primary race to retain the governor's office this year.

Trump administration officials say the USA government knows the location of all children in its custody after separating them from their families at the border and is working to reunite them.

"I believe that would explain his reluctance to enter the fray", Hensley said of Colyer during the Democrats' news conference. The three lawmakers, joined by Rep. Ponka-We Victors, a Wichita Democrat, demanded more transparency and details about how the federal dollars are being spent.

And the administration says it will now seek to detain immigrant families during their immigration proceedings, which has also stoked an outcry. He said checking on conditions at The Villages' homes was his "lowest priority".

"What the president just signaled is, 'I'm not going to be there.' And therefore I think people will take the cue", Sanford said. They have expressed frustration that the Republican bills were crafted without their input. "That's critical considering our goal is to improve our country's immigration laws", Curbelo said in a statement to Reuters.

Kembo Mohadi suffered leg injuries, and Constantino Chiwenga had slight facial bruises, state media said. The elections are the first in Zimbabwe since Mugabe was ousted after 37 years in power.

"From our visit, the children seem to be adjusting well, and are having their needs met", Forrest said.

After the public response, President Donald Trump on Wednesday ordered that they be brought back together.

McClatchy reported Thursday that the Obama administration also separated families who were detained at the border.

Parents who remained locked up struggled to get in touch with children being held in many cases hundreds of miles away.

The child was one of those heard crying out - and reciting the number - in an audio recording reportedly made inside a detention center, which galvanized opposition to the separations.

"You hear the other side, you never hear this side", said Trump, standing with a dozen of what he calls the "angel families" who lost loved ones at the hands of people in the country illegally. "This is a very unfair situation".

Some conservatives seized hold of the migrant photo faux pas to attack the media, and White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted, "It's shameful that dems and the media exploited this photo of a little girl to push their agenda".

With both White House arguments proving untenable and public pressure mounting in the wake of photographs of children kept in cages at a Texas facility and audio of them crying out for their moms and dads, Trump signed an executive order Wednesday meant to keep families together at the border.

It also comes as the Pentagon is drawing up plans to house as many as 20,000 unaccompanied immigrant children on military bases.

Trump had travelled to Capitol Hill as recently as Tuesday to sell GOP lawmakers on embracing immigration bills pushed by House leadership and to take action to halt the separation of migrant families at the border. But it would not say whether any of them had been separated from their parents during recent crackdown at the border.
