Geoffrey Rush Reportedly Suffering Greatly Following Defamation Suit Against Sexual Allegations

Geoffrey Rush virtually housebound and barely eats, court told

The affidavit tendered yesterday says that when Rush does venture out in public he feels anxious as he believes people are staring at him in a challenging, frightening and unnerving way.

His lawyers have detailed the "ongoing hurt" caused by newspaper's articles, which alleged he engaged in inappropriate behaviour towards a fellow performer during the 2015-16 Sydney Theatre Company (STC) production of King Lear.

For whatever reason, Rush is fighting the cross-claim and intends to focus his ire on the newspaper.

Geoffrey Rush - the 66-year-old actor known from movies like "Pirates of the Caribbean" and his Oscar-winning role in "Shine" - was one of Hollywood's many powerful men accused of sexual misconduct in the #MeToo movement.

He rarely left home in the three months after the articles and "has been virtually housebound", his lawyer said.

He has "lost his appetite and barely eats", has trouble sleeping at night and, when he does sleep, he "wakes up every morning with a bad sense of dread about his future career", believing it to be "irreparably damaged", the documents state.

The Telegraph has defended its reports and is attempting to file a cross-claim against the theatre company, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.

Facebook will introduce an "unsend" option, after backlash about Zuckerberg's disappearing messages
She also told Judy Woodruff on PBS Newshour that "we just weren't thinking enough about the bad use cases". Fortunately, Facebook feels the same way.

This would make it another defendant in the actor's lawsuit, with the plaintiffs claiming that the theatre company knew the Telegraph would, or would probably, republish its comments against Rush alleging inappropriate behaviour.

Despite denying the allegations, Rush voluntarily stepped down as President of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts.

Lawyers for Nationwide News and Moran say that the company "sent out statements about Rush that were clearly intended for publication" and that no inaccuracies in the story were pointed out when it was read to a publicist over the phone, the Herald adds.

She said that meant "do not use my name, mate".

She said the respondents had given no explanation as to why they were now naming a previously confidential source from the STC in court documents.

He said the defence wasn't trying to delay the proceedings.

The claims are contained in an affidavit as part of his legal action against the newspaper being heard in the Federal Court in Sydney. The presiding Judge Michael Wigney said it was likely the case would go to trial in December.
