Britain's Prince Philip in 'good spirits' after hip operation

Queen Elizabeth II's husband Prince Philip is "comfortable and in good spirits" after he underwent a planned hip replacement surgery in a London hospital on Wednesday.

According to the Daily Mail's Richard Kay, Philip accepted medical advice after being told his hip complaint could prevent him from participating in his "beloved" sport of carriage driving.

"The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London last night, as a precautionary measure, for treatment of an infection arising from a pre-existing condition", a Buckingham Palace spokesman said at the time.

The 96-year-old was absent from the family's Easter services, which were attended by Queen Elizabeth, Prince William, and Kate Middleton at Windsor Castle. The surgery was conducted under general anesthetic and the palace later said he was progressing satisfactorily but would remain in the hospital for approximately two weeks.

Most surgeons suspect the Duke is having a hip replacement operation - which is quite common for people of his age.

"His Royal Highness is likely to remain in hospital for several days". The Queen and the Duke of York were in attendance at the event.

CNN and others reported that some anchors from inside Sinclair stations were uncomfortable with the top down decision. Ironically, by airing such a statement as a news segment, Sinclair is doing exactly what it is denouncing.

It has not been revealed how long he will be in hospital and if he will miss any upcoming events this spring, most notably the wedding of his grandson Harry to former actress Meghan Markle on 19 May.

"There's no cause for alarm but frankly he's a proud man and doesn't want to appear crocked in public".

Yesterday Buckingham Palace confirmed he would undergo surgery on Wednesday afternoon. As noted by the Washington Post, the palace will provide updates "when appropriate".

He retired from public life a year ago but has since appeared several times at royal engagements alongside Queen Elizabeth.

It was founded in 1899 at the suggestion of the then-Prince of Wales, and has treated most senior members of the royal family, including the Queen, Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge.
