The Leafs' best players made several clutch players to lift the Leafs to a 4-2 win Monday night, much to the delight of a raucous crowd at the Air Canada Centre.
After dropping the first two games of their series against the Bruins in Boston, the Maple Leafs got a big break in their first period back in Toronto. And there's something to be said for Matthews' confidence after his first goal of the series came with Bergeron on the ice, and with that line pinned in their zone for what had to have been the first and only time in the opening three games of this series. This, of course, compared to Matthews seeing Bergeron for a combined 12:49 of his 27:32 in Games 1 and 2 in Boston made an obvious difference.
Nazem Kadri skated with the team on Monday, but is still suspended for the next two games after an illegal hit on Bruins forward Tommy Wingels in Game 1.
Game 4 goes Thursday night at the ACC.
They could never pull even and with time winding down, David Krejci turned the puck over to old nemesis Tomas Plekanec inside the Toronto blue line and the Leafs went back on 2-on-1. He left in the second period with his injury. He finished the game with the save of the year on David Pastrnak.
Up Next: The surging Bruins head to Toronto up 2-0 in the series with the Leafs searching for answers.
Their defense, which was a turnstiling nightmare for large chunks of this game, will know what the Leafs want to connect on in Game 4. After an up-and-down start to the season, he was the most productive Maple Leaf in the second half of the year, netting 49 points in his final 48 games.
Then, with 3:28 left in the period, he stoned Kasperi Kapanen on a breakaway after Kapanen had gotten behind Nick Holden, in the lineup for an injured Matt Grzelcyk.
Next to nothing has gone right for the Maple Leafs. But after a powwow with all four officials, referee Brad Meier waved Nash into the box. A lot of that had to do with how dominant defenceman Morgan Rielly was all night.
It's true. But to do this thing they're trying to do against the Bruins, to find a way to come back against such a formidable opponent when you already had one skate in the grave, an awakening by the franchise player might not be enough on its own. From the corner, Bozak threw the puck into the crease and Rask stopped it with his stick, but that set it up on a tee for James van Riemsdyk.

The Bruins tied it briefly at 3:06 of the second perid. Andersen surrendered weak goals to both Adam McQuaid (a modest shot from the point that went through him) and a brutal angle shot from Zdeno Chara ...
Fortunately for the Leafs, Matthews and Nylander stepped forward in the last half of the period with their best work of the series.
Toronto's defense has been sliced and diced, and its penalty kill has been embarrassed by the ferocity and efficiency of the Boston attack.
Goalies_Boston, Rask 2-1 (30 shots-26 saves). The game remained tied, but the ice was starting to tilt towards the B's net.
However, while Toronto got taken apart in its first two games, the Avs were quite competitive against the NHL's best regular-season team.
It was far from a ideal outing from Plekanec and his new linemates because the Bergeron line still had a handful of glorious chances.
While the Bruins snipers didn't connect, they certainly had their chances, most notably with an 18-7 edge in shots on goal in the third.
There were at least three giveaways in the first period, two by the defence, and in the first two games the Bruins would surely have put those pucks in the net.
