A little rain, a little snow, a little freezing weather here

- A tornado watch is in effect for Wake, Durham, Chatham, Orange, Person and Moore counties, among others, Sunday night as a band of strong storms is predicted to move through the area.

Rain, snow, sleet and "all precipitation types" are likely with the storm that also is poised to deliver strong winds and blizzard conditions, the National Weather Service said.

Fire and rescue officials reported several trees down in the Palm Lake area of Slidell on West Hall Avenue and Front Street at 11:15 a.m., the result of thunderstorm winds. In addition to the tornado watch still in effect, the county was under a severe thunderstorm warning earlier in the afternoon. The storm could include widespread large hail, with isolated hail as large as 2.5 inches in diameter and scattered damaging wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour. In addition to the heavy snow, strong winds gusting between 40 to 50 miles per hour will bring the possibility of blizzard conditions to west central Minnesota.

The watch will be issued at 1:00 pm and the warnings will be issued at 1:45 pm.
