DACA was supposed to end Monday. It didn't, but DREAMERs remain anxious

DACA was supposed to end Monday. It didn't, but DREAMERs remain anxious

Six months later, there still aren't a lot of answers.

President Trump and the White House are not interested in solving this problem-they have so far tried to use Dreamers as bargaining chips to push forward their anti-immigrant agenda.

Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court said it wouldn't hear the DACA case yet. The deadline he set is here and we still do not have a solution for these Dreamers, for one simple reason: President Trump is standing in the way.

Another shutdown looms, though, with March 23 being the deadline for Congress to pass another spending bill. Nonetheless, Trump blamed Democrats for DACA inaction, charging that they "are doing nothing" about the issue.

Federal district judges in California and NY have issued nationwide injunctions against ending the program March 5, the deadline set by the White House.

"DACA is probably dead because the Democrats don't really want it, they just want to talk and take desperately needed money away from our military", the president tweeted in January.

First man in history to run "four minute mile" dies at 88
Bannister's 3:59:4 stood as the record for less than two months, until Australian John Landy ran a mile in 3:57.9 in Finland. Among other things, he developed the first test for anabolic steroids as chairman of the Sports Council from 1971 to 1974.

Trump previous year announced that he would end the DACA program, but provided Congress with six months to put together a legislative fix.

The program gives people brought across the border illegally as children two-year temporary legal status to work, study, and live in the U.S.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has boosted the approval rate of renewals from previous DACA recipients to 98-percent, but some people signing on to the program for the first time are still having trouble. The earliest the Supreme Court could accept that case would be in October, pushing a final ruling possibly into 2019.

Erik Lopez, 19, a freshman at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and a DACA recipient, attended the march in Washington and said he fears his studies in political science and criminal justice will go to waste if he loses the work permit tied to his DACA status. Deportation arrests have surged more than 40 percent under Trump.

Conservatives in the House of Representatives have introduced their own, more hardline legislation addressing DACA, but it has been unable to gain sufficient support within their Republican Party to pass.

"For myself, I worry because I am not sure about my future", said Lopez, a native of Mexico.
