White House Aide Porter Out After Domestic Abuse Accusations

In the riotous history of the Trump administration that has been a bad place for aides to be.

In this photo, National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn, White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter and Ivanka Trump walk across the South Lawn before departing the White House with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., August 30, 2017. She never mentions Porter by name. She is rarely quoted at all.

During the campaign, she transcribed Trump's tweets.

White House aide who resigned amid abuse...

The White House initially tried to weather the storm. He nearly always accompanies the president when he travels, and frequently can be seen near Trump as he boards Marine One and Air Force One.

By Wednesday night, White House staff secretary Rob Porter's wall of support had crumbled. Observers wondered whether Hicks' relationship with Porter was a factor.

Mr Porter rejected the allegations in a statement read by the White House press secretary on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Hicks is also caught up in Robert Mueller's investigation into obstruction of justice and other matters.

Porter once worked as an associate at Sidley Austin, according to Above the Law and a Deseret News article written when he was named to the White House job. Donald Trump said he was going to hire only the best people.

The spokesman added that the allegations are "serious and disturbing", but he repeatedly noted that Porter denied wrongdoing. She does not tweet.

She is well-liked and trusted by Trump.

If Kelly's position becomes untenable, his departure would spark a new personnel crisis in a West Wing already thin on expertise, that saw multiple exits in Trump's first year in power, and that is constantly besieged by the cloud of the Russian Federation investigation.

Shah said Porter was "terminated" but later clarified he was not fired.

Obama Claims He Doesn't Talk To FBI Director About Pending Investigations — FLASHBACK
Multiple outlets have pointed out that this couldn't have had anything to do with the Clinton email investigation, since that had been closed in July.

When Donald Trump chose to run for president he made her head of communications for the campaign. "He was surprised. He, like many of us, did not see that in Rob Porter, did not see what these allegations have brought forward".

"Even for someone that is that empty a barrel, we were stunned", Kelly said. But Trump knew her through her work doing P.R. and other projects for Ivanka Trump. "I have no use for anybody who beats their spouse", he said.

Trump officially entered the presidential race a few months later.

Senior staff at the White House apply for five-year clearances, and the process can be lengthy-some current officials are still waiting, aides said.

Porter's title understates his importance to the president.

Trump went through two communications directors in his first seven months.

To the right of Omarosa is Anthony Scaramucci.

"There was not a thumbs up or thumbs down", Shah said.

Ivanka Trump was a client of Hiltzik Strategies. But you might not know it if you watch Fox News, where the disturbing story has been largely, and conspicuously, absent.

"To have a chief of staff defend the integrity of of a person who's been credibly accused of being a wife beater is just stunning and unconscionable, Peter Wehner, a veteran of three previous GOP presidents, told The Washington Post".
