NBC reportedly benches analyst for remarks about Japan and Korea

Japan ruled Korea with an iron fist from 1910 to 1945 in a bloody occupation that still strikes a raw nerve.

The network responded quickly after the backlash, announcing Ramo's assignment with the Olympics is now over, and NBC offered an apology both in writing and during the broadcast.

Ramo, who was also an on-air contributor for NBC during the Beijing Olympics, is co-CEO of Kissinger Associates, an advisory firm of former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

But one especially awkward mistake, which was made during the early hours of coverage in Pyeongchang, South Korea, saw an American broadcaster make an insensitive remark about the host nation.

The Bull City-born Ramo claimed to speak on behalf of all Koreans when citing Japan as providing the example that led to Korea's own modernization.

"His incorrect and insensitive comment about Korea's history has enraged many of [Korea's] people", wrote Jung Min-ho in The Korea Times.

House vote ends overnight government shutdown
Trump , in announcing he had signed the legislation, contended it will help the US military be "stronger than ever before". He says non-military spending "will never come down" without electing more Republicans in the 2018 elections.

Following that comment, which Koreans found ignorant considering that a very large percentage of them do not see Japanese colonialism in a positive light, NBC Sports apologized for Ramo's remarks. Do you thank Japan for the Pearl Harbor raids?

Tokyo only formally lukewarm-apologised two years ago for the sexual enslavement of thousands of Korean women during World War II.

NBC has been broadcasting the Olympic Games since 1964 - and certainly, over the course of more than five decades, mistakes have been made.

The Korea Times reported Sunday that the network had planned to use Ramo for other Olympics events - but then had no choice but to axe him.

The broadcaster came under fire after Joshua Cooper Ramo, an Asian commentator for NBC, said during the march by Japanese Olympic athletes at the opening ceremony Friday that Japan played an "important" role in South Korea's recent achievements as a nation. "We understand the Korean people were insulted by these comments and we apologize".
